Rapunzel, or, The Magic Pig,

Rapunzel, or, The Magic Pig,
by the Creation Theatre Company
   // //

3 December 2010
directed by Charlotte Conquest.

Anybody who saw the Creation Theatre Company’s Christmas entertainment given at the Cowley Mini-plant in the Mirror Tent last year will be keenly looking forward to this one. And they will not be disappointed.

Once again, the company has taken a traditional story and turned it into a high-spirited medley of mime, dance, music, acrobatics, comedy, fantasy costumes and special effects of sound and lighting. The music has been specially written by Jack Merivale for the script by Annie Siddons. The result is very special. Boldly mixing old and new, princes and clowns, puppetry and trapdoor surprises, this is more than a play, more than a show, more than just another pantomime: it is a creative theatrical event, and truly magical. http://www.oxfordprospect.co.uk/Rapunzel,-or,-The-Magic-Pig,.html

Summer fun for Young People

Youngsters from six Oxford estates will be able to spend their summer holiday playing sports or taking part in arts and crafts thanks to funding from Oxford City Council.

Oxford City Council has funded activities for young people living in Barton, Wood Farm, Blackbird Leys, Cowley, East Oxford and Rose Hill from the ages of 5 to 19 years. This summer the scheme is also including young people living in Littlemore.

The aim of the four-week summer holiday activities is to channel young peoples’ energies into activities that they want. http://www.oxfordprospect.co.uk/Oxford-Sport.html

New look for Hunter Close play area

Friday 16 July 2010
The new play area at Hunter Close in Cowley will be officially opened on Tuesday 20 July.

The play area has been redesigned after consultation with local residents and young people who use the park.

The play area now has a new basket swing, a large climbing unit, a rotating disc, see-saw, a new toddler unit and new monkey bars.

The existing swings have been refurbished and new safety surfacing has been provided throughout.

Councillor Ben Lloyd-Shogbesan, Ward Councillor for Lye Valley, says: “I am pleased that this play area has been completed and that the existing swings remained in situ.”

Councillor Mark Lygo, Board Member for Sport, Play & School Liaison, says: “We are committed to improving play areas in the city. I hope that the local residents, who were involved in the consultation, will enjoy their new play area.”

The official opening takes place on Tuesday 20 July at 3.30pm. The refurbishment work cost approximately £50,000 and took eight weeks to complete.

The work was carried out by Groundwork Thames Valley who are project managing the £2.5 million play area refurbishment programme for Oxford City Council.
