Bus campaigners have rejected the idea that a new park and ride would solve traffic problems that the Northern Gateway would cause. Hugh Jaeger of Bus Users UK Oxford Group said “Of all the City Council’s policies to increase climate change and make Oxford a worse place to live and work, the Northern Gateway is by far the worst. Oxford employs at least twice as many workers as it houses, so over 40,000 commute into Oxford daily to work. This creates emissions and congestion that help wreck our climate, create congestion and waste everyone’s time.
What is really needed is an express tram line built linking Carterton, Witney, Eynsham to Oxford to relieve traffic congestion along the A40. Such systems work in France, Germany and Poland. so even make a profit.
