Adam Michnik Oxford Lecture on European Politics

This is a Review of Adam Michnik inaugural Ion Ratiu Democracy Lecture held at Oxford on the 23 March 2012.

Adam Michnik, at 66 years old is editor in chief of Poland’s leading newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza is one of the best known East European dissidents. He was one of the leaders of Poland’s dissident movement. As well as one of the main Solidarity strategist’s and was also an organizer of the Round Table debates with the communist government. Adam Michnik is a major public intellectual, an interpreter of post – Communist ideological and political debates, a moral thinker and polemicist. Adam is a recipient of numerous awards and honours, including Knight of the Legion of Honour and European of the Year.
