Is the Big Society failing Oxford?
6 November 2010 – There are concerns that proposed Government planning policy, will have an negative economic development impact on the Oxford region. Since the new coalition government was elected, many local authorities have ceased carrying out their strategic planning duties. This means in many areas plans to meet regional strategic planning targets have been abandoned. It means as a concequence that South Oxfordshire can prevent very necessary housing being built south of Grenoble Road and instead in Headington new housing will be built north of the byepass.
For residents and potential residents such changes in government policy will have serious implications for the future economic development of the area.
In simple terms, if the government does not take into account the very important concerns raised by the various green groups, developers, business groups and the RTPI could have very negative economic and environmental effects.
