3. Last Call for Swimathon 2011
   Oxford swimmers are being reminded to take part in the Swimathon 2011 – the biggest fundraising swim for Marie Curie Cancer Care. So far nearly 50 swimmers have signed up and there’s still time to take on the sponsored swim and join thousands of other swimmers taking part nationwide.
4. Touch Rugby League this summer
   Oxford Rugby Club is hosting a Touch Rugby League this spring/summer and is encouraging everyone to have a go and try something new. Oxford City Council’s GO Active project, In2Touch and the RFU are all working together to grow the Oxford Touch Rugby League with at least 6 – 8 mixed teams from local businesses.
5. Badminton sessions at Oxford leisure centres
   Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre & Ferry Leisure Centre are opening their doors to welcome new people onto their badminton courts as part of their ‘Bring a Friend for Free’ promotion. The promotion, being run in partnership with Badminton England’s No Strings Badminton, aims to get more people giving badminton a go. No Strings Badminton means you can turn up, pay and play. There are no membership fees, no contracts or hidden clauses to tie you down. The ‘bring a friend for free’ events run on Monday, Wednesday and Sunday and provides you with the opportunity of inviting four friends for free.

• Alstom signs €300 million taiwan power plant contract

The economic downturn threatens many things and we must hang on to our local monthly Farmers’ Market in Headington. Use it or lose it!

Fortunately, using it on a sunny Spring morning like yesterday was a treat and it seemed to me that quite a lot of people were there. I bumped into two old friends and went to all my favourite stalls, as well as discovering a new one.
