ALAN BENNETT
SELLS OUT
at OXFORD PLAYHOUSE
Friday 20 November at 5pm
Alan Bennett makes his way to the Oxford Playhouse stage on Friday 20 November for an extraordinary sell-out performance in support of the Playhouse’s 70th Anniversary Campaign.
The 70th Anniversary Campaign was kicked off back in June 2008 when Oxford Playhouse Chair (now President), Graham Upton embarked on a 1,100 mile sponsored bike ride around England visiting regional theatres on route. Since then the Playhouse has welcomed a whole host of extraordinary talents to their stage, including Seamus Heaney, Richard Dawkins and Victor Spinetti back in 2008. 2009 has seen an exceptional line up of remarkable people taking to the stage in support of the Playhouse Campaign. From local author Philip Pullman to A Family Affair presented by Prunella Scales CBE (Fawlty Towers, A Question of Attribution, Gertrude’s Secret), Timothy West CBE (Brass, King Lear, Bleak House) and their BAFTA award winning, film star son, Samuel West (Brass, King Lear, Bleak House). Not to forgot Timothy West and Richard Dawkins in conversation and Michael Palin looking back on his life and work so far. Finally Alan Bennett will read from his published diaries and from his latest play The Habit of Art on Friday 20 November at 5pm.
Although the Anniversary year comes to an end for the Playhouse this year, the fundraising campaign will continue into the New Year and future. The Playhouse is very grateful to its many supporters who have given generously over the years.
