Lions, No Problem, But Dangerous Drivers!!!

Nicholas Newman interviews travel writer Fran Sandham and author of the book ‘TRAVERSA’ at the Oxford Literary Festival

Like many before him, Fran Sandham felt the call of Africa. This sense of adventure led him to undertake a trek from Namibia’s notorious Skeleton Coast to Zanzibar on Tanzania’s Indian Ocean coast. This amazing 3,000 mile walk was across some of the wildest parts of Africa; it was lucky for him that the natives were, for the most part, friendly.

Prince Charles – where are you?

23 April 2009
Oh dear! Yet another glass set of boxes for Oxford Brookes. It is not surprising that neighbours of Oxford Brookes are less than enthusiastic at plans to redevelop the University’s Headington campus. Brookes University plan upsets Oxford neighbours (From The Oxford Times) http://www.oxfordtimes.co.uk/search/4315633.Brookes_University_plan_upsets_Oxford_neighbours/
Despite claims of the proposed design providing an iconic gateway building for Oxford, it’s not surprising many have greeted its design proposals as having little architectural merit.
As one observer, recently said: ’it is just another bland, boxy, set of glass fronted office blocks, with little to recommend it.’
At present the design looks more like a bunch of Lego bricks than a building of architectural merit.
Where is Prince Charles when you need him, to challenge the project’s architects to come up with something worthy of a world-class university that is Oxford Brookes today.
