Chiltern Railways are urging motorists to consider car sharing to get to the station as a way of both reducing driving costs as well as helping the environment.

This comes at a time when millions of motorists are expected to be affected according to recent news that road tax reforms will increase costs for high polluting vehicles.

A typical liftshare members saves themselves £1,000 a year by sharing their empty seats so this could certainly help to take the sting out of the new reforms which, it is estimated, could result in some paying up to £245 more on their Road Tax.

Passengers can access the scheme from home or work at www.chilterncarshare.co.uk and register their journey details for free. The system will then tell them if anyone else is going in the same direction, leaving it up to them to make contact through a secure e-mail connection, and arrange to share both the journey and the costs of travel.

The software behind the system has been provided by the specialist car-sharing company, liftshare, which has established more than 900 car-sharing schemes for communities across the UK.

Recent months have already seen a dramatic increase in the number of people turning to carsharing.  Why not sign up today at www.chilterncarshare.co.uk
