As is usual in undemocratic Oxford, yes we got a new Mayor this year, but none of the tax paying electorate was permitted to take part in the process of choosing a Mayor for Oxford. the Councillors as usual voted one of themselves in.

New Lord Mayor elected

On Thursday 15th May 2008 in a traditional ceremony Councillor Susanna Pressel, Jericho and Osney Ward, was elected as the new Lord Mayor of Oxford.

The ringing of the bells at Carfax Tower for half an hour marked the occasion.

Three hundred invited guests attended the ceremony. Attendees included Andrew Smith MP, the Lord Lieutenant, representatives from Thames Valley Police and Oxfordshire Fire Service.

Councillor Pressel who has represented the same area for the past twelve years says, “It is a great honour and privilege to be elected to represent this beautiful city of ours for the coming year.

“I already have about 50 engagements, so it looks as though I’ll be very busy.

“I look forward to visiting as many organisations as possible, as well as continuing to look after my ward and keeping up with City Council work.

“I hope people will contact me if I can help with anything in my capacity as Lord Mayor and ‘first citizen of Oxford”
