MARK WATSON
CAN I BRIEFLY TALK TO YOU ABOUT THE POINT OF LIFE?
AT OXFORD PLAYHOUSE
Monday 11 February
Multi-award winning and multi-faceted comedian MARK WATSON will be at Oxford Playhouse on Monday 11 February, as part of a wide-spread UK tour following the phenomenal success of his shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and London’s West End. In Can I Briefly Talk To You About The Point Of Life? Mark will be pondering the meaning of life with hilarious results. “Can I briefly talk to you about the point of life?” a religious evangelist asked Mark recently. But Watson’s excitement at the prospect of finding out something so important was soon dispelled when the man, rather disappointingly, just said a few things about God, which didn’t quite add up. Still, the subject was sown in Watson’s head. MARK WATSON has always been given to melodrama; he proposed to his girlfriend at the culmination of his now legendary first 24 hour show at the Edinburgh Fringe and at the age of 6 he wrote his Will after losing at Connect Four to his dad. However, this year, he underwent something of an early mid-life crisis, just at a time when things seemed to be going perfectly to plan. The results are in this show. In the twelve months since winning the inaugural 2006 if.comedy Panel Prize, Mark has made regular appearances on BBC2’s Mock The Week, Nevermind The Buzzcocks and Time Trumpet, been in his own hugely acclaimed Radio 4 series, Mark Watson Makes The World Substantially Better, completed a 35-date National tour, had two of his situation comedies televised, published his second novel and performed sell-out runs at the Adelaide and Melbourne festivals, which led to a two-week run at the Sydney Opera House in May. He is one of the Top 10 Coolest Acts in the Rough Guide To British Cult Comedy and was nominated for The Writers’ Guild Award and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Best Show Award and was the number one Time Out Critics’ Choice Of The Year. Tickets to see MARK WATSON at Oxford Playhouse on Monday 11 February at 8pm are £14.50 and are available from the Box Office on: 01865 305305 or online at www.oxfordplayhouse.com
