Philip Pullman, award – winning author and patron of Pegasus Theatre, features in a fundraising event for the theatre’s Building The Future redevelopment campaign.

The title Butterfly Soup comes from Philip’s explanation of his method of writing:

“The writing process is much more like what goes on inside a chrysalis when a caterpillar changes into a butterfly. The parts of the caterpillar aren’t unbolted one by one and reassembled in a different order according to a manual: the entire substance breaks down into a sort of soup, and gradually a butterfly comes together, something utterly different.”

The evening, which will kick off with wine and canapés, will include performances by members of Oxford Youth Theatre and a reading from a brand new work by Philip, yet to be published.

He will also be in conversation with his publisher David Fickling who has a small but important local imprint that has produced some of the most acclaimed ‘crossover’ books (appealing to both adults and children) in the past few years. David will be joined on stage for the interview by a group of young participants from the theatre. Their questions will delve into his love of storytelling, the power of performance, his passion for the arts, education and his long-standing support of Pegasus.

There will be a raffle draw and a book signing session at the end of the evening.
