Oxford City Council’s Executive Board has approved a senior management restructure which will see three Executive Directors managing 12 Heads of Service in place of the current three Strategic Directors overseeing 18 Business Unit Managers.
Councillors approved the report which will see new Chief Executive Peter Sloman continuing the improvement programme which will sharpen the focus of the work of the council.
The 1400 members of staff have been consulted on this policy and their views were taken into account before the final paper was brought before Councillors.
Councillor John Goddard, Leader of Oxford City Council, says: “We need to make the Council a leaner and more efficient authority without losing the quality of the services. This restructure will help the Council focus on the needs of the city that it serves.
“We need to provide value for money and ensure that this restructure helps us deliver the council’s objectives and the Government’s national requirements.”
The report will considered at tonight’s Full Council meeting and it is hoped that the process of appointing Executive Directors and Heads of Service will be completed by the end of the year.
There have been two rounds of consultation with staff, and councillors and Trade Unions have also been involved in the restructure plans.
