COSI FAN TUTTE completes the season at Longborough Festival Opera

Longborough Festival Opera’s 2003 production of Cosi fan tutte returns for 5 performances with a completely new cast and new conductor.

The company includes outstanding young soprano, Rachel Nicholls as Fiordiligi. She made her début at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in Wagner’s Parsifal and has returned there to sing Chloe in The Queen of Spades, Pepik in The Cunning Little Vixen, and Echo in Ariadne auf Naxos.

Last year she made her main-house debut for Scottish Opera as Flora The Knot Garden to widespread critical acclaim. and has since returned to play Frasquita Carmen.

Susanna Tudor-Thomas, who sings Dorabella, made her debut aged only 17, as Barbarina le nozze di Figaro) for Welsh National Opera. A member of English National Opera, she has sung or understudied many roles. Happily, her husband, Nicholas Folwell is also singing in Cosi fan tutte as Don Alfonso.

Nic has already been at Longborough this summer, as Alberich in Das Rheingold. The couple are looking forward to singing in the same opera.

Ashley Catling sings Ferrando, a role he has also sung at Garsington. He has also recently been at Opera North singing Kurdryas in Katya Kabanova.

Guglielmo is taken by South African-born William Berger. The company is completed by Romanian soprano Eliana Pretorian as Despina. Eliana has just been singing in Ariadne auf Naxos at Garsington Opera.

Cosi fan tutte is directed by Longborough Artistic Director Alan Privett (who directed Das Rheingold (earlier in the season) and conducted by Jeremy

Silver, who conducted the popular Carmen last year. Sung in English, this

production sets the opera in a remote outpost of the British India of the 1840s.
