First Great Western pulls out all the stops for 20th anniversary of line

Celebrations were today held at First Great Western’s
Bicester
Town and Oxford railway stations to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Bicester to
Oxford line.
Richard Rowland, First Great Western’s Regional Manager for the East and Tony Baldry MP, officially launched the celebrations atBicester
Town station, before a specially commissioned birthday cake was cut and handed out to passengers at the station. Guests and passengers then boarded the train to
Oxford where, during their journey, a jazz band and children’s entertainers, who handed out balloons, entertained them. On arrival at
Oxford station, a similar event was held and the on-board entertainment remained on the train throughout the day.

Richard Rowland, said: “As this is an important stretch of line for both visitors and local people, we thought it deserved a public celebration. Not only are we celebrating the anniversary, but also the introduction of a new £2 fare between
Bicester
Town and
Oxford, which I am sure will be very popular.”

First Great Western has also recently launched a competition for local people to name the railway line between
Bicester
Town, Islip and
Oxford. The closing date is Friday 1 June 2007 and entries should be sent to Kirsten Evans, Equinox PR,

Earlswood Road, Cardiff

Business Park, Llanishen,
